According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), a crash between two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses in Lagos on Wednesday night has resulted in injuries for multiple passengers.
The occurrence took place on the Bus Rapid Transit lane at Iyana-Ipaja, heading towards Pleasure road, prompting worries about roadway security within the metropolis.
The crash was confirmed by Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who is LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary in a statement, and he added that the wounded passengers were quickly moved to a nearby hospital for necessary medical attention.
At approximately 11:39 p.m., following emergency calls made to their hotline, LASEMA responded to a crash that occurred in the late hours of the night.
It has been reported that the collision between two BRT buses took place as one of them swerved to avoid hitting a commercial motorcyclist who was unlawfully occupying the BRT lane.

Although no lives were lost, the quick maneuver taken to avoid hitting a motorcyclist resulted in an unfortunate collision that caused injuries to numerous passengers on both of the buses.
The situation was managed by LASEMA’s Dolphin Response Team based in Igando who were dispatched to the scene. Upon reaching, it was discovered that the crash had severely affected traffic flow on the busy corridor.
Two tow trucks were dispatched by the agency to clear and transport the impaired buses off the roadway, thereby facilitating regular traffic movement.
“The significance of road safety and compliance with traffic laws, particularly the correct utilization of assigned lanes such as the BRT corridor was emphasized once again by Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu.”
In addition, he conveyed his relief that no fatalities had resulted from the accident and reassured that appropriate medical attention is being provided to those who were injured.
The occurrence is a cue to the possible hazards on Lagos streets, particularly when adhering to traffic regulations is not rigorously observed.
LASEMA’s quick response played a significant role in reducing the accident’s impact, yet the injuries suffered by passengers emphasize the continual necessity for vigilance and strict enforcement of traffic regulations to ensure all road users’ safety.
