JAMB plans to include verbal reasoning exam for DE candidates

Beginning in2024, candidates for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, or JAMB, will face verbal and cognitive reasoning examinations in addition to the Direct Entry exam. This announcement was made on Monday.

In a virtual conference with Commissioners of Education from the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Registrar, emphasised this.

“As from 2024, JAMB will conduct Aptitude Test for all Direct Entry candidates to assess their academic potential or career suitability, as well as their mental or physical capacity,” Oloyede stated in a special bulletin released by the Board on Monday.

“It is an intelligent test that will measure the candidate’s current cognitive skills and will not be the usual subjects such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Government, Physics, etc.” stated the head of JAMB.

The aptitude test would include verbal, abstract, mechanical and numerical reasoning, data checking, and work sampling, according to the registrar.

The participants were also advised by the Registrar that “only JAMB Offices nationwide will be able to register for Direct Entry.”

He declared that the following details must be provided by all DE candidates at the time of registration: Registration/Matriculation The number of the prior school attended and the degree earned; topics) that require qualification Awarding Institution; Institution attended; and Year of graduation as well as admission documents where appropriate.
