Israel Continues Strikes Across Gaza as Hamas-Run Ministry Reports 400+ Killed
Ongoing Israeli airstrikes hit multiple locations in Gaza, with the Hamas-run health ministry claiming over 400 casualties.
According to the health ministry operated by Hamas, Israeli air strikes on Gaza have resulted in over 400 fatalities.
The Israeli military reports that it is targeting “terror locations” throughout Gaza after negotiations to prolong the ceasefire were unsuccessful. This marks the largest series of strikes since January 19, when the ceasefire initially commenced.
The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel intends to “intensify military actions against Hamas,” accusing the group of continually refusing to release hostages and rejecting proposals for extending the ceasefire.
Hamas has accused Israel of targeting “defenseless civilians” and argues that mediators should hold Israel “fully responsible” for allegedly violating and overturning the ceasefire.
According to Israel, 59 hostages remain in Gaza, with as many as 24 thought to be alive. A group representing the hostage families has accused the Israeli government of “giving up on the hostages” by initiating new strikes.
The Hamas-run health ministry reports that over 660 individuals are currently hospitalized with injuries, as of a report published at 03:05.
We’ve received a report from the health ministry operated by Hamas.
According to Munir al-Barsh, the director general of the ministry, hospitals have received over 660 injured individuals.
He additionally reports that at least 326 people have lost their lives, with “many victims still trapped under the rubble.” A previous update from the ministry indicated that the death toll had reached at least 330.
According to him, the majority of the victims are women and children.
According to al-Barsh, there is a significant lack of medical facilities, as 25 out of the 38 hospitals are not operational.
“We urgently need field hospitals, beds, and operating rooms to handle the overwhelming number of injuries and victims resulting from the aggression,” al-Barsh adds.
