U.S. President Donald Trump says his recent hour-long conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was “very good,” sparking speculation on future U.S.-Ukraine relations.

Donald Trump characterized his hour-long conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky as “very good.”

According to Trump, much of the dialogue was influenced by his earlier discussion with Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, which he shared in a post on Truth Social.

During that call, Putin dismissed the possibility of a complete ceasefire; however, the United States has indicated that discussions will resume on Sunday.

Zelensky previously remarked that “Putin’s words are very much at odds with reality,” criticizing the recent Russian attacks on Ukraine. He accused Moscow of targeting energy infrastructure, while Russia’s defense ministry claimed that Kyiv had struck one of its oil storage facilities.

Despite a rocky beginning, Eastern Europe correspondent Sarah Rainsford notes that the preliminary agreement stemming from the Trump-Putin conversation should not be dismissed.

Zelensky referred to his call with Trump as “frank” and “very substantive,” stating that it was “positive.”

He emphasized their mutual agreement that Ukraine and the United States must continue collaborating to achieve a genuine resolution to the conflict and establish lasting peace.

“We believe that with America’s support, under President Trump’s leadership, we can attain lasting peace this year,” he added.
