INEC shifts time 6pm for national collation of results
The compilation of the 2023 presidential election results has been delayed until 6 p.m. on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party have been engaged in a close race for the presidency in 2023.
Every polling place where the electoral umpire had prolonged the process for various reasons was expected to see the election finish.
Moreover, results should have been announced at polling places, wards, and local government regions.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, had already declared that collation would start on Sunday at noon.
Yakubu, however, stated that the collation will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday during a news conference to declare it open.
Unverified results are anticipated to continue making the rounds on social media up to that point.
