The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has expressed strong condemnation for the recent raid carried out by the Nigerian Army on the residence of Chief Edwin Clark, a prominent Ijaw leader, in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a statement issued by Prof Benjamin Okaba, the President of INC, it was stated that the military’s actions came as a shocking surprise to the organization.

The reason for this shock is that Chief Edwin Clark, at 97 years old, has dedicated his life to serving his community and country.

The INC president questioned why someone of such high esteem and non-violent nature would be subjected to such disrespect and disregard.

The raid, which Chief Clark himself referred to as an “invasion,” took place on March 23rd, with the military claiming they were tracking suspects involved in the recent killing of soldiers in Okuama, Delta State.

However, the search was conducted in an aggressive and distressing manner, involving harassment and physical torture of family members, aides, and other individuals present at the compound.

The attack on Chief Clark’s property was carried out from the air, land, and water, leaving the INC deeply shocked and appalled.

The INC president emphasized that even notorious criminals like Enscobar, Anini, or Oyenusi were not subjected to such brutal treatment in the past. It is worth noting that this is not the first time Chief Clark’s residence has been raided.

A similar incident occurred on September 4th, 2018, at his home in Abuja, where nothing incriminating was found.

The INC president expressed bewilderment as to why a man who has dedicated his life to service would be treated with such disgrace, disrespect, and contempt.

Chief Clark is known for his peaceful nature and has never been associated with violence or possession of any weapons.
