A equal playing field for all political parties running in the November 11 governor’s race has been assured by the Kogi State Police Command.

The leadership further denied being aware of any plot to harm Muri Ajaka, the SDP’s candidate for governor, and labelled such information as false, spiteful, deceptive, and inflammatory.

The Kogi State Police Command has been alerted to a fake, incendiary, perfidious, malicious, and misleading allegation being circulated by one Faruk Adejoh-Audu, Director Communications for the Murtala Yakubu Ajaka Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation, to the effect that the Commissioner of Police Bethrand Onuoha plans an attack on Ajaka supporters in the Kogi LGA.

The Command declared that it “wishes to emphatically and categorically state that, the statement is not only a figment of Faruk Adejoh-Audu’s imagination and that of his political candidate, Yakubu Ajaka, who has mastered the art of political gimmickry and brigandage, but also totally false, malicious, pretentious, and highly mischievous.”

“The Commissioner of Police, who has so far shown a high level of professionalism since taking office one month ago by creating a level playing field for all political parties and their candidates to operate in the state, should not be drawn into politics,” the author said.

“The SDP Candidate and his Campaign Organisation should leave the Police alone and focus on issues-based Campaigns and soliciting for support from the electorate instead of resorting to cheap blackmail, bullying, and arm-twisting for political sympathy from the public who already know their tricks, gimmicks, and precedents,” he claimed.

The entire plot to harm, assassinate, and defame the Commissioner of Police’s well-earned reputation and integrity is the height of callousness, insensitivity, and self-interest. It also serves as a symbol of desperation, vengeance, a propensity for destructiveness, and to savour the sneaky and lofty political ambition of a psychopath.

It should be remembered that on June 3, 2023, the SDP candidate Murtala Yakubu Ajaka and his followers attacked and obstructed the convoy of Kogi State Executive Governor Yahaya Bello at Banda, which is a few kilometres outside of Lokoja.

Some of the Governor’s assistants suffered injuries of varied severity during the incident. Even though he lacks immunity, he has been roaming throughout the state’s nooks and crannies unmolested despite all attempts, invites, and entreaties to come and provide his own account of the incident. The situation is currently being investigated. Aya added more detail.
