I Had Issues Carrying Pregnancies – Ini Edo Opens Up on Choosing Surrogacy
Nollywood actress Ini Edo has revealed her struggles with carrying pregnancies, explaining her decision to opt for surrogacy to fulfill her dream of motherhood.
Renowned Nollywood actress Ini Edo has finally disclosed the reason she chose surrogacy over personally carrying her baby.
The actress revealed this during the current third season of the ‘Young, Famous & African’ reality show.
During a conversation with her co-stars, Ini Edo also discussed the paternity of her child.
When asked about her marriage and the paternity of her daughter, the actress revealed that she had difficulties with carrying pregnancies.
One of her colleagues, Nadia, asked, “Do you have a child?”
Ini Edo confirmed, “Yes, I have a baby girl.”
Nadia asked, “Are you married?”
Ini Edo stated, “I’m not married.”
Nadia asked if she was in a relationship with the father.
Ini Edo stated, “No, I am not.”
Nadia asked, “Is he still alive?”
Ini Edo responded, “He is not dead and has no connection to us. It’s just my daughter and me.”
“I prefer not to discuss my journey as it’s personal, but I am raising my child on my own and went through surrogacy.”
At the time I wanted to have a child, there was no man in my life, and various options exist to pursue that goal.
I never imagined I would face fertility challenges, but I’ve struggled with carrying pregnancies to term. When it started seeming unlikely and realizing I’m not getting any younger, I asked myself, “What options are available?”
“When this opportunity arose, I seized it and am very pleased with my decision.”
The actress elaborated, sharing that she had undergone IVF treatments in her attempt to conceive and experienced six miscarriages before ultimately choosing surrogacy.
remembers that the actress, then 42 years old, married Nigerian-American businessman Philip Ehiagwina in November 2008; however, their marriage ended in divorce in 2014.
