Gunfire Erupts as Fubara, Wike Supporters Clash at PDP Secretariat
Tensions flared at the PDP secretariat as supporters of Governor Fubara and ex-governor Wike clashed, leading to gunfire and heightened political unrest.
Tensions escalated in Port Harcourt on Friday when rival factions within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) clashed at the party’s state secretariat. These groups were aligned with Rivers State Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Chief Nyesom Wike.
The confrontation resulted in gunfire near the PDP office on the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway. Some witnesses attributed the shots to security personnel stationed at the facility after Aaron Chukwuemeka’s executive leadership was removed by court order, while others blamed political thugs for the incident.
According to sources, supporters of the governor, who were earlier removed from the secretariat by security personnel following a legal ruling, tried to retake the office on Friday morning.
Nonetheless, they encountered opposition from a faction said to be loyal to the former governor. This tension sparked a violent confrontation that led to multiple gunshots being fired.
