Governors Convene in Abuja to Discuss Tax Bills and Other Key Issues
Nigerian governors gather in Abuja for a crucial meeting to deliberate on tax bills, revenue allocation, and other pressing matters affecting national development.
Members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) gathered for an in-person meeting at the Forum’s Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday evening.
At the time this report was filed, fifteen governors were present at the meeting, most of whom belonged to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In attendance were Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, elected under the Labour Party (LP), and his Anambra State counterpart Chukwuma Soludo from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), both serving as the sole opposition governors present.

The agenda for the meeting was not provided to journalists by press time. However, for weeks now, the governors have been addressing the tax reform bills put forward by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly.
The Tinubu administration’s new tax bills have become highly controversial, drawing harsh criticism and strong opposition from various quarters, including all 36 state governors represented by the National Economic Council (NEC).
The 19 governors in northern Nigeria have firmly opposed certain sections of the bills and demanded their withdrawal from the National Assembly.
