Gareth Southgate, the manager of England, offers Saka of Arsenal promise
When it comes to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka’s fitness during the impending international break, England boss Gareth Southgate has vowed to take no chances.
The Saturday matchup between Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League at Emirates Stadium is uncertain with Saka out.
Tuesday night’s 2-1 Champions League loss to Lens for Arsenal ended with the 22-year-old being pulled off during the first half.
Since the end of last season, Saka has been sidelined with an Achilles injury, and Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has come under fire for allegedly overusing the winger after he was brought on late in the team’s 4-0 victory over Bournemouth.
The forward has been selected for both England’s friendlies against Australia and Italy later this month, but Southgate is certain that he won’t take any chances given Saka’s injury issues.
According to Football London, Southgate stated, “I can only go by what Mikel has said about the last few games.
We have a really significant qualification since he is in the running for the weekend. As good as any nation, we take care of the players.
In a given year, we only play 10 matches. And there have been occasions where… We didn’t always play, for instance, in Bukayo. However, there are some crucial games in which you should try to have your finest players present.
“So we are accountable for representing our nation in the qualifiers, but I have played. Never once have I gambled with the physical health of a player. Likewise, I wouldn’t.
