The federal government has released the updated mining standards for the creation of Community Development Agreements (CDAs) in the solid minerals industry.

At an event organised by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD), the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development, the Ford Foundation, and others, Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Mineral Development, led the launch on Friday in Abuja.

According to the Minister, the federal government was determined to make sure that host communities gained as much as possible from mining operations and related activities for the advancement of the local and national economies.

He asserts that the CDA is a legal agreement that imposes duties on the part of the Mineral Title Holder (MTH) to her host community and vice versa, and that it is a statutory instrument that guarantees the transfer of socioeconomic advantages to mining host communities.

“Mining for mineral resources had significant impacts on host communities, so it is imperative that concerned communities be carried along in the sector’s activities,” the Minister stated.
