EPL: Jorginho leaves Chelsea for rival club

Jorginho, a Chelsea midfielder, will be one of the few stars to represent the two London giants after signing a £12 million-per-year contract with Arsenal.

Before the transfer window closes, the Italian midfielder who moved to Stamford Bridge from Napoli in 2018 is expected to head to North London.

He was expected to become a free agent in the summer of 2023, so both teams have agreed to the terms of the pact.

He will be under contract for one year, to 2024, with an additional year’s option.

Mikel Arteta’s club will need to find a substitute for Mohammed Elneny as a result of the Egyptian’s injury.

After failing to buy Moises Caicedo from Brighton, the Gunners developed an interest in the Italian. They sent two bids, with a third attempt looking iffy as the transfer window ends on Tuesday.

If the transaction is approved, Jorginho, who has won the Champions League, Super Cup, and FIFA World Club Cup with Chelsea, will join other players who have played for both teams, like Ashley Cole, David Luiz, Petr Cech, William Gallas, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
