On Sunday, the APC in Kano State urged the EFCC to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent medical supply contract scandal that affected 44 local governments within their jurisdiction.

On Sunday, in Kano, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, chairman of the APC announced this declaration.

Abbas urged for the local government council accounts in the state to be frozen, so as to prevent any more exploitation of their resources under the guise of collaborative initiatives.

According to him, Governor Abba Yusuf’s confession of ignorance regarding the corruption scandal was evidence that he either lacked authority or competency as a leader for the state.

Abbas ridiculed the order for the state Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate, deeming it ludicrous.

It was pointed out by the chairman that Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, who serves as the commission’s chairman, may be biased and incapable of investigating an alleged scandal involving immediate family members of Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso – father in-law to the governor and troubled leader of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in said state.

The reasoning behind this suggestion indicates concerns surrounding compromised objectivity from Chairman Rimin Gado based on his past actions or beliefs.

He observed that the alleged financial recklessness involving officials of the NNPP government was part of a series, with this scandal being the most recent.

Abbas remembered that the construction of two interchange bridges at Dan-Agundi and Tal’udu junction in the city by the state government involved contracts worth N27 billion, which stirred debate. The payment would be divided between the state and 44 local governments with a distribution ratio of 30/70.

According to the chairman, there remain unresolved financial accusations concerning government operations, its officials and assignees that either underwent inadequate investigation or were not investigated at all.

It was claimed that a political appointee working for the Cabinet Office had engaged in activities such as diverting and re-packaging palliatives.

Commending the state Governor for his prompt action to investigate the contract for drug supplies, Commissioner for Information Baba Halilu Dantiye stated that it was indeed a commendable decision.

He clarified that the allocation of contracts for both interchange roads in the metropolitan region strictly adhered to due process, and all relevant information was open for public inspection.

Dantiye was taken aback by the constant effort of APC leaders in Kano to restrict investigations into their affairs through legal means, causing him to question their intentions.

If they have nothing to hide, he urged them to consent for investigations to move forward.

Moreover, Dantiye highlighted that demands have been made for the state authorities to probe into the purported mishandling of local administration funds by the ex-first lady via 44 bank accounts throughout their tenure.

The people of Kano State were reassured by him that the administration under Gov. Abba Yusuf’s leadership is devoted to delivering on its commitments, promoting transparency, and prosecuting any wrongdoing or procurement violations as stipulated by law.
