The Incorporated Trustees of Masallacin Eid Shop Owners and Traders filed a complaint against the Kano State Government, and a Federal High Court in Kano ordered the government to pay N30 billion within seven days.
In the move, a stay of the court’s earlier ruling from September 29, 2023, is requested.
The ruling mandated that the Kano State Government reimburse the Incorporated Trustees of Masallacin Eid Shop Owners for the illegal demolition of their establishments without adhering to the appropriate legal protocols.

The ruling judge, Justice Samuel Amobeda, had issued a conditional order directing the N30 billion to be placed in the Court Bank Account within seven days, subject to the outcome of the appeals process.
In response to the ongoing interference with the properties, the court issued a severe warning.
In the event that the directive was not obeyed, the notice threatened contempt and jail time.
The Kano State Government requested a stay of execution, and Justice Amobeda granted the request—but only if they paid the N30 billion.
The ruling in action number FHC/KN/Cs/208/2023, which concerned the Incorporated Trustees of the Masallacin Eid Shop Owners and Traders Association, was ordered by the court to be stayed until the outcome of the appeal.
The Deputy Chief Registrar of the Court must be contacted for specifics on the account. The court’s order guarantees that the prior judgment’s execution will be stayed until the appeal’s outcome.
The winning party in the appeal will get payment for the deposited amount plus any interest that accrues and any associated costs.
But the Kano administration countered that the issue was who owned the properties, asserting that the state government was the rightful owner.
