Delta Senator Ned Nwoko Dumps PDP, Reveals Reason for Defection
Delta Senator Ned Nwoko has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing key reasons for his political defection.
Senator Ned Nwoko, the representative for Delta North in the National Assembly, has announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a political group he joined at its inception in 1999.
In a letter dated January 30 and presented to the party leadership in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nwoko clarified that his decision was primarily influenced by the severe divisions and irreconcilable factions affecting the party.
Nwoko expressed in the letter, “My resignation primarily stems from the profound divisions and internal factions within the party. This fragmentation has increasingly hindered efforts to promote unity and further our people’s collective interests.”
The senator also voiced worries about the party’s recent internal disputes, mentioning a violent clash among senior party officials that took place on January 29.
He remarked, “Only this week, specifically on January 29th, the top party officials stooped to their lowest by engaging in physical altercations due to irreconcilable factions.”
Although Nwoko recognized the opportunities the PDP offered during the 2022/2023 senatorial elections, he noted that the existing structure of the party in Delta State has hindered his ability to deliver on his campaign promises.
“Unfortunately, the way our party is organized in this state has not been helpful in achieving these promises. After thoughtful reflection, I have decided that leaving the party is essential to meet my responsibilities to my people,” he stated.
Although Nwoko has left the PDP, he remains dedicated to serving his constituents and fulfilling his promises to them.
“As I say goodbye to my membership in the PDP, I want to reassure all party members and my constituents of my steadfast commitment to statesmanship,” he added.
As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations, as well as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, Nwoko stressed that his decision was guided by a focus on what would best serve his constituents’ interests.
He stated, “My decision is based on what is best for those I serve, and I am committed to the advancement and prosperity of our state and nation.”
In conclusion, Nwoko thanked the PDP leadership and its members for their longstanding support and wished the party success in all its future endeavors.
