Container accident claims life of Osun varsity staff
An unfortunate incident took place along the Ilesa-Ibodi road, resulting in the death of a female staff member from the University of Ilesa.
Reports indicated that a truck carrying a load of cashew nuts had an accident, causing the cargo to fall onto the car being driven by the university staff member.
The accident caused a commotion near the institution’s main gate, prompting bystanders to rush to the scene and assist in rescuing the victim.

Eyewitnesses shared that the university staff member had just finished her work for the day and was on her way home when the tragic event unfolded.
A senior staff member from the University of Ilesa, who chose to remain anonymous, described the incident as the vehicle driven by their colleague getting trapped under the fallen container of cashew nuts.
Tragically, there are fears that the female staff member did not survive the accident. The aftermath of the accident led to a significant traffic jam on the busy road, as the fallen container and the vehicle obstructed part of the thoroughfare.
In response to the incident, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, expressed his condolences and called for a thorough investigation into the root cause of the accident.
Governor Adeleke emphasized the importance of holding those responsible for the accident accountable and ensuring that measures are put in place to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
He directed the Commissioner for Transportation to take immediate action, including visiting the accident site, the University of Ilesa, the deceased staff member’s family, and implementing new regulations for heavy-duty trucks using narrow roads.
