The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has received praise from the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria for taking action to address issues impeding women’s development.

When he paid Wike a visit in his office in Abuja on Tuesday, Mr. James Chrisoff, the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, offered the compliment.

Chrisoff called the creation of the FCT Administration’s Women Affairs Secretariat a “critical step” towards the empowerment and development of women.

He said that Canada would uphold its close diplomatic ties with Nigeria and added that Nigerians living in Canada served as the crucial link connecting the two nations.

In keeping with President Bola Tinubu’s economic plan, he stated his nation’s desire to collaborate with Nigeria on agriculture.

In response, Wike reaffirmed increased security to foreign missions and other investors, emphasising that security authorities were working to keep the nation secure.

According to the minister, the Joint Task Force on “one chance” operators is already producing the expected results, and since the squad started operating, there have been no incidents reported.

He continued by saying that President Bola Tinubu has put in place procedures to guarantee that his renewed hope initiatives are felt throughout the nation.

He claims that the FCT is actively working to build itself in accordance with the objective of “renewed hope.”

“Security has increased in the FCT because security organisations have been working nonstop to keep the area secure.

For instance, we established a collaborative taskforce to address the one-chance issue, and since then, there have been no incidents reported.

“The renewed hope agenda of Mr. President is to restore hope to our people,” he stated.

According to Wike, his administration is concentrating on boosting the FCT’s internally generated revenue in order to fund development projects.

He urged businesses, embassy staff, and other taxpaying entities to discharge their tax commitments.

In a similar event, the minister installed Mrs. Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi as the first Secretary of the Women Affairs Secretariat.

Wike requested the FCT Minister to develop practical measures for the secretariat’s start-up during the secretary’s inauguration.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Wike had announced on October 13 that Tinubu had given his assent for the Women Affairs Secretariat to be established in FCTA to address women’s issues.

The minister had stated that Tinubu’s dedication to inclusive governance carried everyone along with the action. (NAN)
