During a candid interview with the unconventional singer Charly Boy, Bobrisky revealed that his journey began in an unexpected way. While studying Accounting at the University of Lagos nearly a decade ago, he found himself drawn to the world of fashion and self-expression. Running a side business selling unisex clothing, Bobrisky experimented with trying on female garments, initially as a marketing tactic to attract more customers.
Reflecting on those early days, Bobrisky recalled, “About nine years ago, I was at the University of Lagos studying Accounting. I also had a side hustle, I was selling unisex clothes. Most times I try the female wears on myself and I love the outfits.”
What began as a simple marketing ploy soon evolved into something more profound. As Bobrisky continued to explore femininity through clothing, hairstyles, and makeup, he found himself increasingly comfortable and empowered in this expression of self. The positive reception from customers only encouraged him further.
“From there, I moved to female hairstyles to makeup and more women were patronizing my business. So I decided to keep crossdressing since it was lucrative,” Bobrisky explained. “I wasn’t thinking I was going to do it for a very long time. Initially, it was just a marketing strategy but people were complimenting me that I look better as a woman than a man. That’s how I ended up being Bobrisky.”
However, this journey towards embracing a transgender identity was not without its challenges. Bobrisky faced resistance and skepticism, particularly from his family. The initial reactions from his parents were marked by concern and confusion, as they struggled to understand and accept his unconventional path.
He revealed, “I faced resistance from my parents initially but they eventually allowed me to be myself.”
