The lawsuit, filed on March 18 by his lawyer Olujoke Aliyu from Aluko and Oyebode Law Firm, sought five reliefs before Justice Inyang Ekwo, claiming that his detention and seizure of his international travel passport went against the 1999 Constitution.
Additionally, Nadeem Anjarwalla, the Binance Africa regional manager who escaped custody on March 22, filed a separate suit before Justice Ekwo, seeking similar relief against the Office of NSA (ONSA) and EFCC.
Both Gambaryan and Anjarwalla, in their respective suits marked FHC/ABJ/CS/356/24 and FHC/ABJ/CS/355/24, demanded the release from custody and return of their passports, citing violations of their personal liberty as guaranteed by the Constitution.
Gambaryan, an American citizen overseeing financial crime compliance at Binance, requested an order of perpetual injunction against further detention in relation to any Binance-related investigations, as well as a public apology and full indemnity costs for the legal action.
He emphasized in a statement that he visited Nigeria on February 26, along with Anjarwalla, to discuss Binance-related matters with ONSA and EFCC, highlighting the importance of upholding his rights as a foreign national during the legal proceedings.
