FG Confirms Binance Executive Anjarwalla’s Escape; Interpol Collaboration Underway

Following the confirmation from the Office of the National Security Adviser, it has been established that Nadeem Anjarwalla, a suspect involved in the ongoing criminal investigation regarding the activities of Binance in Nigeria, managed to escape from lawful custody on Friday, 22 March 2024.

In response to this incident, the NSA office, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, MDAs, and the international community, has taken immediate action to locate and apprehend the suspect. Security agencies are currently working with Interpol to obtain an international arrest warrant for Mr. Anjarwalla.

Preliminary findings indicate that he fled Nigeria making use of a smuggled passport. The individuals responsible for the custody of the suspect have been apprehended, and a comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding his escape from lawful detention.

The Nigerian Federal Government, along with other governments worldwide, has been actively investigating instances of money laundering and terrorism financing on the Binance currency exchange platform.

One individual involved in these activities, Nadeem Anjarwalla, who holds both British and Kenyan nationalities and serves as Binance’s Africa regional manager, managed to escape while under a 14-day remand order by a Nigerian court. Prior to his escape, he was due to appear before the court again on 4 April 2024. In light of this, we strongly urge the Nigerian public and the international community to come forward with any information they may have that could aid law enforcement agencies in apprehending the suspect.
