The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, has officially declared that elections are set to take place in the councils of 23 Local Government Areas of the state on July 6, 2023.

This announcement was made by the Chairman of BSIEC, John Chen, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Makurdi, the state capital, where action plans and activities for the upcoming elections were unveiled.

Chen emphasized that the elections will cover the positions of chairmen and councilors in the local government councils and council wards, including the anticipated newly created council wards in the state.

The decision to conduct these elections was prompted by the governor’s directive for the commission to swiftly initiate the necessary processes and procedures to ensure that the elections are conducted in a transparent, fair, and credible manner.
