Akpabio to Tinubu: No Room for Stubborn Ministers in Your Government
Senate President Godswill Akpabio advises President Tinubu to ensure his administration remains disciplined by removing stubborn or uncooperative ministers.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged President Bola Tinubu to address the issue of “uncooperative ministers” in his cabinet who are not responding to invitations from the National Assembly.
Akpabio stated that those ministers do not belong in Tinubu’s cabinet because they lack democratic principles.
The Senate President announced this on Wednesday when the President submitted the 2025 budget estimates, totaling N47.9 trillion, to a joint session of the National Assembly.
Akpabio stated to Tinubu, in front of a full assembly of Senate and House representatives, that anyone who ignores an invitation from the National Assembly is undemocratic and should not be part of your government.
He emphasized the importance of ministers and presidential appointees promptly responding to requests from the National Assembly for necessary explanations about their performance.
The Senate President stated that the legislators possess constitutional authority to take action if individuals fail to appear before the red and green chambers.
Tinubu was joined at the budget presentation by George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, and other high-ranking government officials.
The presentation, originally scheduled for Tuesday, has been rescheduled to Wednesday following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
