On Friday, seven PDP-controlled state governments abandoned their lawsuit against Nigeria’s federal government over the way the presidential and national assembly elections were conducted, tallied, and announced.

Take notice that the plaintiffs doth hereby entirely cease this matter against the defendant herein,” said the Notice of Discontinuance, which was signed by their attorney, Mr. Mike Ozekhome, SAN.

Concerning the conduct, tabulation, and declaration of the results of the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections, the seven states had brought the Federal Government of Nigeria to the Supreme Court.

The plaintiffs are requesting a particular order from the top court “directing a wholistic review of all results so far declared by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)” in the original summons with the file number SC/CV/354/2023.

The state attorneys general of Sokoto, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Akwa-Ibom, Delta, and Edo filed the lawsuit.

The Electoral Act of 2022 and the INEC Rules and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections, 2022’s provisions required the agents and officers of the federal government and INEC to send the poll’s collated results, but they did not, claims the lawsuit.

Remember that APC’s Bola Tinubu defeated the PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and the LP’s Peter Obi to claim victory in the presidential election on Saturday.

The results of the Presidential election were declared by INEC on Wednesday morning, with Tinubu winning.

After some time, the former governor of Lagos State was given his Certificate of Return.

Next month, he’s anticipated to take the oath of office as Nigeria’s new leader.
