2023: Shettima praises Fayose for “supporting” Tinubu
Senator Kashim Shettima, a vice presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has hailed Ayodele Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State and leader of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for his support of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential campaign.
According to Leadership, Fayose has withdrawn from the PDP presidential primaries because he supported the protests of the party’s G-5 governors, who were headed by his friend and governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.
Recall that Fayose had previously stated in the open that he would only back a presidential candidate with Southern heritage in order to bring power back to the South.

Only a few days ago, the national leadership of the PDP suspended seven of Fayose’s allies and protégés over alleged anti-party conduct. These individuals are running for federal legislative seats in Ekiti State in the upcoming general elections in 2023.
Shettima’s statement, however, may have convinced Fayose to abandon the PDP’s Atiku Abubakar in favour of the APC’s Tinubu.
After meeting with the former governor of Ekiti State, Shettima praised him and revealed Fayose’s support on Twitter.
The running mate of Tinubu wrote: “I visited my brother, H.E. Ayodele Peter Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State.” The great Oshko greeted us with kindness and a wonderful sense of unity. God bless you for hosting my team and me, and I thank you for your support.
