Popular Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has advised Nigerians to vote for candidates who will not fight bandits if elected into office less than 90 days before the 2023 elections.

In a speech, the controversial Islamic preacher told Nigerians they should vote for candidates who, if they were elected, would talk to criminals.

Gumi said that bandits were “our people” and that if Nigeria wanted peace, its future leaders would have to talk to the bandits and give them what they wanted.

“Never support candidates who support fighting bandits.” Our folks are the combatants (bandits). “Please vote for candidates who will call and negotiate with our people (bandits) once in power to give them what they want so that peace can reign,” the man said.

Some Northern States, including Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Kaduna, the Plateau, and Taraba, have been terrorized by bandits.

They have kidnapped and murdered a number of people while demanding millions of naira in ransom.
