In Abia State’s March 18 gubernatorial election, Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) prevailed.

Okey Ahiwe of the PDP and Enyinnaya Nwafor of the Young Peoples Party, among others, were defeated by him (YPP).

Nwafor received 28,972, Ahiwe 88,529, and Otti 175,467.

The final collation of governorship election results resumed on Wednesday evening in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, after being stopped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for 48 hours. Prof. Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti, the state’s returning officer, pronounced Otti the winner.

Olusegun Mimiko’s term as governor of Ondo State, which spanned from February 2009 to February 2017, marked the LP’s first governorship in the previous 20 years.

Nnannaya-Oti declared before the announcement that she would uphold democratic ideals and act in the public’s best interests.

On these beliefs, I will stand firmly and without apology. Votes and mandates from the people are to be upheld.

As the vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nnannaya-Oti declared, “The pastor and the mother in me will not allowed me to do anything that would badly effect the future of our children.”
