Upset demonstrators hailing from Nsukwa, Aniocha South local government area, made their way to Delta State Government House on Tuesday to voice their concerns regarding the selection of the next local government council chairman from their clan.

The protesters, identifying themselves as members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and operating under the banner of Concerned Nsukwa Clan Youths, gathered at the main entrance of the Government House to emphasize their stance on the matter of zoning.

They utilized placards with messages such as “Nsukwa Clan is not a political slave” and “On Equity we stand” to convey their demands for fairness and justice in Aniocha South.

The entrance to the Government House was blockaded by the protesters as they sought to assert their position on the issue of the council chairmanship.

The demonstration caused disruptions in traffic flow, affecting both vehicles and pedestrians, as the protesters peacefully paraded through the streets with their placards.

The protest unfolded shortly after Hon Joan Onyemaechi resigned as Commissioner in the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration, a move intended to create an opportunity for her brother to pursue the council chairmanship candidacy.

Despite this sacrifice, tensions in the local government persist, with conflicting factions engaged in a struggle over the zoning arrangement.
