Yobe’s government will’regulate’ social media, according to Commissioner
The Yobe State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, Honourable Abdullahi Bego, claims that the state is in an era of propaganda and misinformation.
He declared that efforts were being made to develop state legislation regarding social media.
Bego made this declaration when taking over the ministry’s business in a brief ceremony held on Tuesday at his office in the IBB Secretariat, Damaturu, according to a statement by the Ministry’s Department of Information Services.
According to the Information Commissioner, Governor Buni’s government is committed to repositioning the state’s information industry for the greatest advantage of the populace.
He declared, “We shall train and retain information officers to improve their capacity, seek the digitization of State television, broaden the radio coverage, and design state policy for social media.
Alh. Kashim Tijjani Kalli, the Ministry of Information’s overseeing Permanent Secretary, praised Bego’s selection and handed over control of the ministry’s affairs to the new commissioner.
