Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, has finally agreed to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja on June 13 to face corruption charges.
His lead counsel, Abdulwahab Mohammed, assured Justice Emeka Nwite that Bello was not hesitant about the arraignment but was concerned about his safety in the hands of the EFCC in Abuja.
The lawyer cited consistent threats to Bello’s life in the capital as the reason for his decision to go underground for safety reasons.
Justice Nwite’s remarks that the EFCC would abide by the law influenced Bello’s decision to submit to the court trial.

The Judge emphasized that the charges were based on unproven allegations and reminded everyone that the law presumes innocence until proven guilty.
He advised Bello’s lawyer to ensure his client respects the law and court procedures.
In response, the lawyer expressed gratitude for the assurance of safety and confirmed that Bello would be brought to court, requesting four weeks to do so.
With no objections from the EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, Justice Nwite scheduled June 13 as the date for Bello’s court appearance.
The legal proceedings are set to continue, with the former governor expected to enter his plea on that day.
