William Gallas, a former defender for Chelsea and Arsenal, has informed William Saliba that he will not start for France in the World Cup due to worries over Raphael Varane.

Didier Deschamps, the manager of France, added the young Arsenal defender to his team due to his outstanding play throughout the first half of the Premier League season.

Varane’s physical condition is a persistent source of worry.
It was anticipated that the Manchester United center-back would start at the core of France’s defense.

Saliba has already made seven appearances for France at the senior level, but Gallas has cautioned that he is still a step or two behind two other players.

Gallas told Genting Casino, “William Saliba has had a fantastic first half of the season, but I think it will be tough for him to be a starter for France.”

“I don’t believe that Saliba would be Deschamps’ first pick to start, even if Varane is unable to play.

“You have Dayot Upamecano at [Bayern] Munich and [Ibrahima] Konate at Liverpool.”
