In a video posted on her Instagram page, Natalie Okri explained that some of these human hairs are frequently sold to major vendors. She pointed out that Black women buying them could unknowingly be wearing someone else’s bad luck.

There are three reasons why I decided to stop wearing wigs and human hair: one of them being the concern that some human hairs might be offerings in religious or spiritual practices.

In certain Asian countries, many women visit temples to offer their hair as a sacrifice to their gods. They believe this ritual will purify and cleanse them, helping them shed bad luck, poverty, and other burdens in order to begin life afresh.

The temple workers collect hair and sell it to the European market or major vendors like Ali Baba, Ali Express, and various brands. Meanwhile, Black women purchase this hair from these websites for hundreds of pounds.
