Latifat AbdulYekeen, a homemaker, has requested a dissolution of her marriage from an Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, claiming her husband’s incapacity to obtain employment.

The petitioner informed the court that AbdulSalam, her spouse, did not want assistance in finding employment or to labour for pay.

“My father had phoned my husband several times in an attempt to get him a job, but he had never accepted his invitation.

“He has no desire to get employment. Instead, he favours deals that would bring him quick cash without a lot of hassle.

We don’t often eat healthy food at home because of his intransigent attitude, which has made our child and I appear scruffy and thin.

“No one has inquired about me since I moved out of the house four months ago. I want the court to give me custody of my child and to separate us because of this,” she stated.

But the presiding judge, Hammad Ajumobi, argued that a man is entitled to decide where and with whom he works, and that the petitioner ought to make an effort to comprehend her husband’s mindset.

According to Ajumobi, the respondent informed the court in writing that he was going to be unable to attend the hearing due to an accident.

He postponed the hearing in this case until January 9, 2024.
