Ward Exco in Benue PDP suspended due to Ayu’s ordeal
The action taken against Iyorchia Ayu resulted in the suspension of the Igyorov ward executive for a month.
The Igyorov ward exco, which is managed by Kashi Philip and is located in the state’s Gboko Local Government Area, has been suspended by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to the conflict that resulted in the expulsion of the party’s previous National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
The Igyorov ward executive has been suspended for one month to enable the restoration of peace, according to Isaac Mffo, interim chairman of the PDP in Benue, who made the announcement during a news conference on Thursday in Makurdi.
Also, he said that moving forward, the political issues of the party in Ayu’s home ward of Igyorov will be handled by the state working committee.
Tuesday saw the appointment of Umar Damagum as interim party national chairman in Ayu’s stead by the PDP’s national body.

In a statement on Tuesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba stated, “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recognises the Order of the Benue State High Court, dated March 27, 2023, with reference to the Chairmanship position of our great party.
The NWC decided that the Deputy National Chairman (North), His Excellency, Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum, “assumes the National Chairmanship of our Party in an acting capacity with effect from today, Tuesday, March 28, 2023,” in accordance with Section 45 (2) of the PDP’s Constitution (as amended in 2017).
For anti-party activity, Ayu’s ward in Benue originally suspended him. As a result, the court prohibited him from acting as the party’s chairman while the substantive matter was being decided; the hearing date was set for April 17, 2023.
