The claims that an officer was slain in an attack by thugs on Thursday have been refuted by the Abia State Police Command.

On the other hand, the Command attested to the fact that the attackers had murdered and severed the head of an Abia State Vigilante security officer named Obinna Ndukwe, also referred to as Socket.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, or Abia State Police Commissioner, ASP Maureen Chinaka, signed a press release stating that the incident occurred at approximately 15:50 hours in Isiahia Village in Umuojima, Osisioma.

She said that the victim’s body had been removed and placed in a mortuary, but added that Socket was a frequent collaborator with the police as a member of the Abia State Vigilante Service.

It further stated that efforts are being made to capture the attackers after police officers found the unregistered car the thugs used during the assault.

According to the press release, “Abia State Police officers stationed at OSISIOMA Police headquarters received credible information of an attack on a group of security personnel in Isiahia village, Umuojima, OSISIOMA, yesterday, October 26, 2023, at about 15:50 hrs. One police officer, one member of the special constabulary, and three guys acting as vigilantes made up the assaulted team.

“A headless corpse and an unregistered Sienna bus were found upon arrival.” After an investigation, the dead was found to be Obinna Ndukwe, popularly known as Socket, an Abia State vigilante who frequently assisted the police. The deceased’s body has been removed and placed in the mortuary.
