Victory for Nigeria’s Flamingos: Qualify for U-17 World Cup After Beating Liberia
The Flamingos have secured their spot in the 2024 U-17 Women’s World Cup by defeating Liberia with an impressive 6-1 aggregate score. Harmony Chidi’s remarkable performance, with a goal in each half, led Nigeria to a 2-0 victory in the second leg at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The first leg had already ended in Nigeria’s favor with a 4-1 scoreline, resulting in a comprehensive 6-1 aggregate win for the Flamingos.
Throughout the qualification series, Coach Bankole Olowookere’s team displayed their dominance by scoring a total of 25 goals.
They achieved a resounding 12-0 aggregate victory against the Central African Republic in the second round and followed it up with a 7-1 aggregate win over Burkina Faso in the subsequent round.
The upcoming U-17 Women’s World Cup will take place from October 16 to November 3, 2024, in the Dominican Republic.
Nigeria, led by Coach Bankole, aims to build on their success from the previous edition in India in 2022, where they finished third, becoming the second African team to achieve this feat after Ghana in 2012.
