Uzodimma: Igbo businesspeople raised N1 billion to back Tinubu’s presidential campaign
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, Bola Tinubu, has received a donation of N1 billion from 2,000 South-East (Igbo) businesspeople, according to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.
This was said in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Director of Media and Publicity for the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
However, Uzodimma, who revealed what took place in Owerri when Tinubu arrived for a town hall gathering with regional business leaders, claimed the group’s membership was recruited from the region’s five states.
“I’m delighted to announce that our people totally support our presidential candidate, who has come to offer his vision and strategy for Nigeria and the South East today,” the governor stated.
2000 business entrepreneurs from the South East states have raised $1 billion Naira to support this aim.
The group’s spokesperson, Emeka Mbude, said that the members paid N500,000 apiece because they supported Tinubu after reading his Action Plan for Nigeria and held the belief that “where an Igbo man puts his money, he puts his heart.”
In response, Tinubu vowed to implement technology in the port clearing of products that would make the road checks redundant. He also promised to lead a government that treated all Nigerians fairly.
