UPDATED: Ondo Poll: APC Secures Landslide Victory Across All 18 LGAs
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Ondo Governorship Election, winning all 18 Local Government Areas with a significant margin. This sweeping victory solidifies APC’s dominance in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recommenced the collation of results for the Ondo Governorship election following a break.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a dominant lead by winning in all 18 local government areas announced so far. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ranked second.
The collation officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, previously announced a recess to allow time for the arrival of results from the remaining local governments, which he mentioned are located quite far from Akure, the capital city.
Prof Akinwunmi suggested, “I propose we adjourn until 12 noon. Two of the local governments, Ilaje and Ese Odo, have not yet arrived due to their distance from here. We should allow them time to reach us; therefore, let’s reconvene at 12 noon.”
The 15 Local Government Areas announced so far include Ifedore, Ondo East, Ileoluji Oke-Igbo, Idanre, Irele, Akoko South West, Owo, Ondo West, Akoko South East, Akoko North West; and also comprise Ose-Akure regions: specifically the north of it being covered as well – such that both Northeast & Northwest portions are accounted for too (Akure); similarly in southwards direction additionally encompassing within boundaries.
The remaining three local governments are Ilaje, Odigbo, and Ese Odo.
Of the 15 local governments announced so far, only one encountered a contentious issue. In Idanre LG, a PDP agent raised concerns about vote buying, ballot box snatching, and no elections occurring in certain areas. He requested that the returning officer reject Idanre’s results.
INEC National Commissioner, Prof Kunle Ajayi, speaking to Channels Television in Akure, the capital of Ondo State before the collation began, assured residents that the results would be announced by 6 am at the latest.
I assure you that we will stay here until the winner is announced. We won’t leave until we’ve received results from the last local government.
The National Commissioner added, “I am not worried that everything might be concluded by 6 a.m.”
