However, according to CBS Broadcasting Inc., the university claimed in a statement that federal law in the United States forbids it from disclosing any more information regarding Tinubu’s record without permission or until permitted to do so by a court order.

“As an educational institution, we occasionally receive requests to provide information pertaining to student records,” the college stated. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, a federal statute, places restrictions on what institutions can disclose and safeguards the confidentiality of student records.

“In August 2023, a request for the university to give information regarding educational records pertaining to Bola Tinubu, the President of Nigeria and a former CSU student, was filed to the U.S. federal court.

“The institution has verified Tinubu attended CSU and earned a bachelor’s degree there in 1979. However, federal law forbids us from disclosing any more details without your permission or unless permitted by a court order.

“CSU is certain of the accuracy and reliability of our records regarding Tinubu’s fulfilment of the requirements for graduation and the awarding of a degree,” it says. A U.S. federal judge will decide whether the institution will produce the additional material requested, even though it is not a party to the Nigerian legal procedures that led to this request.

“We responded to the request for Tinubu’s academic records in a way that was totally compliant with federal law, our practises, and our regulations. If a third party made a request for any student information, we would respond in exactly the same way.

The documents, according to Atiku, weren’t genuine.

It was one of the things he argued in his case to the Presidential Election case Court challenging Tinubu’s election victory in February.

Atiku’s appeal, as well as similar ones filed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), were all rejected by the court, which upheld Tinubu’s victory.
