Tyla Responds to Her Debut Album’s Shift to ‘Pop’ Grammys Categor

South African artist Tyla shares her thoughts on her debut album being moved to the ‘Pop’ category for the Grammys, expressing her excitement and surprise at the reclassification.

The Recording Academy has reportedly reclassified South African singer Tyla’s self-titled debut album into the pop category for the Grammys, even though it was originally submitted in the R&B category.

According to Hollywood Reporters, the Recording Academy’s R&B screening committee moved the project from consideration for Best R&B Album to instead compete in the Best Pop Vocal Album category.

If Tyla receives a nomination in the pop category, she would be the first African artist to do so.

Her self-titled project would encounter strong competition from Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department,” Ariana Grande’s “Eternal Sunshine,” Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short N’ Sweet.”

Tyla enthusiastically responded to the upgrade on X, writing, “I make it all.”

Remember that Tyla claimed the inaugural Grammy for Best African Music Performance earlier this year with her hit song “Water.”
