Nigerian troops have successfully neutralized the second-in-command to infamous terrorist leader Bello Turji in a major operation aimed at curbing insurgency in the region.

In a significant triumph over terrorism in the North West, troops from Operation Fasan Yamma have successfully neutralized Aminu Kanawa, who was second-in-command to the infamous terrorist leader Bello Turji.

The operation took place from January 20 to 21, 2025, as part of the military’s heightened initiative to dismantle terrorist networks in the area.

Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, announced this development at a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja.

He stated that the troops also inflicted fatal injuries on some of Bello Turji’s close associates, including Dosso (Bello Turji’s younger brother) and Danbokolo (one of Turji’s closest allies).

In addition, the troops neutralized several key commanders of Bello Turji’s group. These include Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe among others.

Additionally, troops neutralized more than 24 fleeing terrorists from Bello Turji’s camp near Gebe and Isa LGAs in Sokoto State, as well as around Gidan Rijiya in Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State.

During the assault on Bello Turji’s Enclave near the Fakai high ground, troops also neutralized another notable terrorist.

He is identified as Suleiman, a loyalist of the infamous deceased terrorist leader Halilu Sububu.

The late Suleiman was heading a reinforcement team to assist Bello Turji’s camp, which had fallen into chaos when he was killed in the firefight.

The loss of Bello Turji’s deputy, along with close allies, commanders, and combatants, represents a major setback for the terrorist network in the northwest of the country and diminishes their military strength and fighting capabilities.

These terrorist groups were infamous for carrying out numerous kidnappings and attacks throughout the northwest, especially in Zurmi, Shinkafi, Isa, and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas of Zamfara and Sokoto States.

Ultimately, the troops are determined to continue their efforts until these terrorists are eliminated.

The goal of troop operations is to ensure a safe and secure environment for every citizen.
