Troops Crush Bandits’ Hideout, Seize Arms and Vehicle in Taraba and Benue

Security forces have dismantled a notorious bandit hideout in Taraba and Benue, recovering arms, ammunition, and a vehicle. A major step towards ensuring peace in the region.

The 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 in Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has achieved another success as part of ongoing military efforts to restore peace and security through “Operation Golden Peace” in Taraba State and parts of Benue State.

On December 7, 2024, troops carried out a well-coordinated clearance operation in the vicinity of Akahagu and China villages within Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

The operation expanded to Ikayor village, where troops confronted bandits at a camp associated with the notorious and wanted criminal Akiki Utiv, also known as “Full Fire.”

During the clash, the troops unleashed intense firepower, compelling the bandits to vacate their positions and retreat chaotically.

After the engagement, a red Toyota Corolla and a motorcycle were retrieved.

While searching the abandoned vehicle, authorities discovered a pair of military camouflage trousers, a Beretta pistol loaded with one round of 9mm ammunition, and various other items.

During his address about the operation, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their bravery and resilience in challenging circumstances. He reassured residents of Taraba and Benue States under Sector 3 of OPWS that the military is committed to upholding peace and security in their region.

He urged the public to keep supplying timely and credible information to aid the security agencies in their efforts.
