Tragic Incident Unfolds: Mother in Delta State Accused of Drowning One-Year-Old Son

Sophia Nkwor, a 24-year-old woman, was apprehended by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abaniwonda Olufemi, in connection with the tragic incident where she allegedly drowned her one-year-old son in a well located in Araya community, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State.

During a press conference held at the State Command’s headquarters in Asaba, Olufemi revealed that the distressing case of infanticide was reported on the 28th of April 2024 at Oleh Division.

The lifeless body of the child was discovered by some children who were playing near the well where the heinous act took place, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.

Sophia Nkwor was swiftly taken into custody, and investigations into the matter were initiated to uncover the full extent of the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

In a shocking revelation, Nkwor confessed that she resorted to such a drastic measure due to her inability to provide for her child, as the father had reportedly abandoned them and she was left to fend for the child alone while residing with her grandmother in the community.

Expressing her desperation, Nkwor stated that she felt overwhelmed by the responsibility of caring for her child single-handedly, leading her to make the devastating decision that resulted in the loss of her innocent son.
