A tragic road accident in Plateau State claims the lives of 19 wedding guests, casting a shadow over what was meant to be a joyous occasion.

A tragic road accident in the Kwanan Maciji area of Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State, has resulted in 19 fatalities and left 11 people injured.

The tragic event took place on Saturday when a group of travelers, returning from a wedding ceremony, faced an untimely demise.

The victims, who had traveled from Kano State to Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State for the ceremony, were on their way back home when the accident occurred.

According to reports, they opted for a shorter route through Gindiri to Bauchi State, which tragically resulted in the fatal crash.

John Dasar, the Chairman of the Pankshin Local Government Area Emergency Management Committee, confirmed the incident and described it as a deeply distressing tragedy. He offered his condolences to the victims’ families and urged for enhanced road safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

“In the wake of the crash, bystanders were assisting in evacuating passengers from the vehicle when it unexpectedly caught fire,” Dasar stated. “Tragically, 19 occupants were trapped and burned beyond recognition. The driver and a few others managed to survive.”

The 11 survivors, several of whom sustained serious injuries, were quickly taken to Pankshin General Hospital for treatment.
