Trafficked Teenage Girls Return to Nigeria for Counselling and Rehabilitation

Ten Nigerian teenage girls have been brought back to Nigeria for extensive counseling and rehabilitation after being rescued from prostitution in Ghana.

The girls, aged between 15 and 18, were enticed into prostitution in Ghana following the circulation of videos on X on June 6, 2024.

The rescue operation was carried out by the Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation in Ghana. Upon their arrival at Lagos International Airport on the night of Tuesday, June 11, 2024, the girls were accompanied by officials from the Imo State Governor’s office, including the Deputy Speaker and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, as well as staff from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.

They were then received and assessed by representatives from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons.

The Chairman of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, stated that NAPTIP will closely monitor the progress of the girls and ensure they receive the necessary care and support.
