Actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham, has expressed her desire for reconciliation with her senior colleague, Funke Akindele, in a heartfelt message. Despite their dominance in the box office, Akindele has surpassed the competition by achieving over a billion in revenue from her movie ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ last year.

Following closely behind is Mercy Aigbe, who recently made her cinema debut in December 2023. Abraham took to Instagram to reflect on their past rivalry, which originated in the Yoruba movie industry and carried over to Nollywood. However, Abraham now realizes that they can compete without being negatively competitive, thanks to age and wisdom.

She also urged the Nollywood community to refrain from damaging the industry with gossip, as it has caused significant harm in the past.

Returning to my narrative, during the era of the Yoruba film industry, Funke Akindele was a prominent figure, following in the footsteps of Aunty Bukky and Aunty Faithia. I found myself next in line, amidst a backdrop of intense competition and gossip, which eventually led to us becoming rivals and being shunned by some.

As Funke transitioned to the English industry, I took the lead before eventually making a similar move. For aspiring young actors, it is crucial to understand that being at the top is not permanent. It could signify progression towards greater opportunities rather than a decline in status. The industry is vast, and no one individual can claim ownership of it.

In the English industry, the rivalry between Funke and I persisted to some extent, dividing our respective fan bases. Both being competitive Virgo women, our desire to succeed sometimes led to negative tactics. However, with maturity and experience, I have come to realize that healthy competition is possible without resorting to negativity.

Funke, I applaud you for demonstrating what is achievable. Your success, surpassing the 1 billion mark, has paved the way for other women to aspire and dream big. Your accomplishments have inspired many, and this year, I hope to join the 1 billion club as well. Your dedication to creating exceptional films and promoting them vigorously has motivated other women to strive harder.

While I had previously set box office records, Funke surpassed them, prompting me to aim higher. Let us support each other even in competition, as I owe you a post in December (just one, for marketing purposes). May all your aspirations come to fruition, and I admire you greatly, wishing you continued success.
