Tinubu need to respect Nigeria and quit right away, former minister Osita Chidoka
Osita Chidoka, a former aviation minister, has demanded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s urgent resignation due to the controversy surrounding his academic standing at Chicago State University.
On Wednesday, PDP chairman Chidoka made the announcement while appearing on an Arise TV programme.
Following claims that the President’s certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was falsified, he made the statement.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, Tinubu’s academic records were made available to the former vice president Atiku Abubakar on Monday by Chicago State University (CSU), who is requesting that Tinubu’s election be declared invalid in court.
The publication of the paper has sparked debates in the political sphere as opposition parties and those who support them have pledged to remove the president.
Chidoka gave Tinubu advice on the subject, telling him to respect his nation, retire, and extend an apology to Nigerians for the origin of his certificate.
He bemoaned the fact that the certificate scandal had hurt the nation’s standing and would have an impact on its capacity to act as an intermediary in the West African sub-region.
You cannot go there with this kind of mandate while preaching the gospel of democracy in West Africa, he remarked. The key is that.
“I don’t believe that the issue is what the Supreme Court would rule on. What concerns me is that the president ought to simply step down. In this nation, there ought to be a certain standard of honour.
“He should just admit that he erred and has no idea how he obtained the certificate.
“This does not require yet another technical snare. Something like this will weaken our nation. It will lessen our ability to act as an intermediary in West Africa.
“It will lessen Nigerians’ capacity to believe that we must make difficult decisions.”
