Bola Ahmed Tinubu may not be allowed to run in the 2023 presidential elections, according to Daniel Bwala, a spokesperson for the Atiku/PDP campaign. This is because of his involvement with a cocaine trafficking case in the United States.
During his appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Bwala remarked.
If the matter gets to court, “I’m worried that the outcome of this case is that, from the viewpoint of the law… Bola may be disqualified from contesting,” Bwala stated.
“Whether in Nigeria or the United States, drug trafficking and money laundering are crimes.”
Bwala was making a statement on the debate around a document that was just made public by the Northern District of Illinois US District Court.
The dossier included proof of Tinubu’s allegedly 30 years ago participation in money laundering and drug trafficking.
Tinubu lost $460,000 in one of the accounts connected to the former governor of Lagos State as a result of the dispute, which was settled.
Festus Keyamo, a spokesman for the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, contended on Wednesday that Tinubu was not charged with a crime and was thus not required to provide a statement.
“Doubtful character”
Bwala countered that the subject at hand was one of character.
“The source of the money is crucial to the Nigerian people, but there is still a shadow over drug-related crimes and drug-related conduct with someone who wants to be the top citizen of the nation,” he added.
“There was a significant cocaine bust recently in Nigeria. Drugs and narcotics are terrible problem everywhere in the world.
“And it means that people involved in those activities will feel emboldened if someone with that questionable character is elected as President. The accused must be exonerated for this reason.
