Tinubu calls on President-elect Boakai to unite Liberia and praises Weah for accepting defeat
Following the smoothly conducted presidential election in Liberia, President Bola Tinubu has commended the country’s administration and populace.
The President congratulated President-elect Joseph Boakai in a statement made on Saturday morning through his media assistant, Ajuri Ngelale.
He urged Boakai to bring Liberians together and capitalise on their support in the polls in order to provide them with effective government.
In addition, he praised George Weah, the outgoing president, for his extraordinary leadership in surrendering the election and preventing a socio-political catastrophe.
He claimed that Weah’s outstanding demonstration of democratic sportsmanship is especially admirable in light of the current political climate in West Africa, where bad actors are determined to weaken the will of the people.
President George Weah is commended for his outstanding leadership, pure patriotism, and statesmanship. The myth that peaceful handovers of power are impossible in West Africa has been disproved by him. He has shown that the people’s will must always be respected and that the results of the subregion’s elections do not have to be used as fuel for turmoil and bloodshed,” Tinubu added.
He also expressed gratitude to the Liberian people for peacefully expressing their rights and urged them to keep up their strong efforts to promote democracy and peace.
