They were found guilty by Justice Dimgba, who also gave them each a one-year prison term.

Three Internet scammers have been found guilty by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s Enugu Command.

The defendants were initially charged with impersonation and attempting to collect money under false pretences on one-count distinct charges on September 29, 2023, before Justice Nnadi O. Dimgba of the Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State, according to a statement released by the EFCC.

Jude Onyekachi, Anyanwu Prince Uzoma, and Okume Clinton Chukwuemeka are the prisoners.

“That you, Jude Onyekachi, fraudulently impersonated one Wilfred Baston from the United States by using your iPhone 11 through a fake Google chat account with the intent to gain advantage for yourself from unwary foreign nationals and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22(3)(a) & (b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc) Act,” the lone-count reads.

To their separate counts, they all entered guilty pleas.

Following their conviction, Justice Dimgba gave them each a one-year prison term.

However, the judge provided them the option of paying a fine of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N150, 000) apiece and decreed that all of the confiscated property from the convicts must be forfeited to the federal government.
